Oneiric is an ongoing artistic research into fluidity, constant transformation and the impact of non-binary narratives in visual arts. Hunter documents his own gender transition through self-portraits, showcasing both temporary transformations with make-up and permanent changes from top surgery and hormone therapy.
The Oneiric project includes a photo book, video and installations.
Claes explores the boundaries of his own self-perception through his work. Oneiric is a depiction of how he experiences gender and processes the world around him. About the discomfort in his body. Hiding and showing. About obsessions and repetitions.
'The importance of bodily autonomy and integrity are central themes.'
The title Oneiric refers to the depiction of dreamlike states. Hunter sees his work as an in-between world
where his conscious and subconscious merge. Here he can process his emotions and come to insights that help him communicate with both the outside world and himself. The awareness of his trans identity originated in this space.
